Key West New Years 2024

Our New Years Trip started with landing at the Miami Airport. We have been utilizing a special flight deal from Nashville to Miami via Spirit Airlines. The flight allows us to fly inexpensively from Nashville to Miami round-trip.

We typically fly into Miami around 10:30 PM local time. We take a short ride over to the four points Sheraton airport hotel. We typically spend the night at this hotel because it is just a few miles away from the airport. The airport is relatively new and clean, as well as providing easy access to Miami, Key Largo and Key West.

I planned a trip to fish the next day, but the weather washed us out. Our trip was scheduled to go out of Islamorada. We decided to drive to the key to see if the weather would break. We were not successful, so we drove on to Key West.

We checked into our hotel at the Alexander Palms Hotel in Key West. This hotel was listed on Booking.com as fairly inexpensive. Fairly inexpensive in Key West is very different than inexpensive for a typical hotel. Be warned.

The hotel is the older 50s style, modern hotel with all outdoor rooms surrounding a smaller swimming pool. The pool was heated. We were able to take a short swim in the pool before dinner.

Are utilize this time in the pool to reschedule a fishing trip for the next day out of Key West. It was a larger excursion type fishing trip that we had not done in the past.

We did dinner at the The Four Marlins Oceanfront dining at The Reach Hotel. After dinner we visited with Robert the Doll. This was our first visit with Robert. I will do a separate blog on the visit at had a lasting impression on my family.

The trip we settled on was with Fish Monster out of Key West. The trip on the boat was very well attended and was an easy ride out to the different reef locations. Overall, I thought the fishing trip was a success.

We caught several fish that morning on our journey. After the trip we had the captain and the crew clean the fish and we had them cooked at a local restaurant just off the pier. Restaurants around the pier in Key West will cook your fresh fish for a cost.

After lunch, we strolled around Key West and visited a few shops. After an hour or so of shopping, we decided to drive back towards Key Largo to see if we could find another fishing trip in Key Largo before we left on Saturday.

On our journey towards Key Largo, we stopped off at Ann’s beach. This is a beautiful area of respite on the Atlantic side of the Keys. The tide was low when we visited in the water was very calm. The beaches and walkways make for a great area with very little traffic. Parking is very easy as they have a dedicated parking lot just off the highway.

We spent the night at the Bayside Inn in Key Largo. This was a great hotel in Key Largo. It is located on the Everglades side of the Keys so the water is very calm.

A short walk through the parking lot allows you to visit Snooks Restaurant, right on the water. We had dinner at Snooks that evening. The restaurant had a waterfront band which was special.

The next morning, we were not able to secure a fishing trip. We redirected our efforts toward John Pennekamp State Park. We spent an hour or so touring the park, the beach and the aquarium.

After our tour, we decided to head back towards Miami and the airport.
